What
is a Heat Pump?
A heat pump is a highly efficient, year-round,
home-heating and cooling system that runs entirely on electricity,
the most flexible and available form of energy we have. |
 |
The system is called a heat pump because it "pumps" heat from
where it is not needed to where it is needed.
In the winter, the heat pump moves heat from the outside air
or ground, depending on what type of heat pump you have, to
warm the house. In hot weather, it works just like an air conditioner,
moving heat from indoors to the outdoors or ground to keep the
house comfortably cool. The heat pump also dehumidifies as it
cools. |
Some
Advantages of a Heat Pump
- Lower Electric
Rate - Compare to the single phase rate.
- Energy savings
of 30% to 50% over air-cooled equipment.
- "Free" domestic
hot water produced during the summer months.
- Heat pumps
are a long life, low maintenance system. The estimated life span
is 25 years or more.
- Environmentally
safe.
- Very quiet.
- Reduces drafts
around windows and doors, because it does not require air for
combustion.
- Very safe.
Can eliminate gas service to premises.
