Voluntary and Open Membership:
Cooperatives are voluntary organizations open to all who are able to use their services.

Democratic Member Participation:
Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by the members with one vote per member.

Members' Economic Participation:
Margins beyond those necessary to pay expenses are credited back to the membership.

Autonomy and Independence:
Cooperatives are autonomous, self-help organizations controlled by their members.

Education, Training, and Information:
Cooperatives provide education and training for their members, elected representatives, managers, elected representatives, managers and employees so they can contribute effectively to the development of their cooperatives.

Cooperation Among Cooperatives:
Cooperatives serve their members by working together.

Concern for Community:
Cooperatives work for the development of their community while focusing on member needs.
